Our Rustic Red Cedar Timber Mantel Shelves are each a unique work of natural art! Kiln-dried logs, these are available in approximately six or eight foot overall lengths and the front-to-back shelf depth varies from about 9" to 16" (each is unique.)
Use one of our rustic log mantel shelves in your cabin, mountain or country home, or to enrich the rustic feel of your home in the city! These log mantels are shipped unfinished and most users apply a clear coat finish to them.
After checking with local building codes for fire hazard safety clearance requirements (which vary across the country) attach to the wall with the method of your choice with hardware you supply. One suggestion is to drill three, six-inch deep 9/16" holes in the back of the shelf that align with three, ten-to-twelve-inch long x 1/2" lag bolts you have already securely installed about halfway into the wall. Check the fit and level front-to-back and side-to-side, re-drill if necessary, then use quick-set epoxy or silicone in the holes to secure the log to the lag bolts.) The use of a carpenter's level is recommended and you will likely want to brace the shelf in a level position while the epoxy or silicone sets up. Also, due to risk of asphyxiation and/or fire, do not drill into or place the lag bolts close to the chimney itself.
