No. 146 Marble Mantel, Circa 1770. English George III design in the style of Robert Adam (1728-1792) with a center tablet of delicate florals and corner blockings of acanthus leaves. Some Federal Design elements, as well. The side frieze panels have arches equal in size to the arches on the jamb panels. The Ionic-Scamozzi scrolling capitals are supported by slightly tapered legs supported by solid plinths. The Robert Adam ideal of harmony is achieved magnificently in this mantel.
