The 'green' manufacturer of our Aromatic Cedar product has specialized in the efficient and virtually no-waste production of 100% Aromatic Eastern Redcedar products for over 30 years, with headquarters and processing in Alabama and an additional production facility in Missouri. These natural pest control and mildew resistant products are manufactured with renewable resources!
- Aromatic Eastern Redcedar is used in these products because only Eastern Redcedar provides natural protection against insect pest infestation and mildew.
- Eastern Redcedar (Juniperus virginiana) logs are select cut by small crews in the Midwest and Eastern part of the U.S.
- While the Eastern Redcedar is typically a small tree, but its logs can actually be cut to yield a 4"x4" square with a length of either 51" or 102". These resulting squared logs are called "cants."
- Tongue-and-groove planks are then sawed away from the cants to create the aromatic cedar planks.
- The smaller diameter ends of the tree and the large log slabs from the side of the cant are made into flakes which are later used to create CedarSafe closet panels.
- Waste from the CedarSafe process is used as fuel in the heaters used to dry the flakes.
- The smaller slabs and other log waste from our sawmill are recycled into mulch for landscaping.
- Sawdust and moulding shavings from the sawmill are processed for extracting cedarwood oil for the fragrance industry. Residue, after extraction, is used as boiler fuel for generating the steam for this oil process as well as for space heating in the winter.
